Boston Chinese Musicians Association (BCMA)
The Boston Chinese Musicians Association (BCMA) was founded in December 2012 as a nonprofit cultural organization officially registered in Massachusetts, USA. Its mission is to preserve and promote Chinese musical arts, including instrumental performance, vocal singing, musical composition, and music theory research.
BCMA not only organizes and plans various music and cultural activities in the Greater Boston area but also takes on the responsibility of nurturing young and adult music enthusiasts, enriching community music and arts events, meeting the needs of communities, organizations, and schools for Chinese musical arts, and fostering exchanges with musicians and artists from the U.S. and around the world. Additionally, BCMA actively participates in and supports musical and artistic activities from diverse ethnic groups.
BCMA’s Three Ensembles:
Since its establishment, BCMA has successfully hosted numerous concerts and music and dance performances, receiving widespread acclaim from audiences in the Greater Boston area. Particularly noteworthy is the "Grand Chinese Heritage" concert series, which includes:
- 2016: "Dream of the Red Chamber" Suite Concert – Highly praised by Wang Liping, the renowned composer of the 1987 Dream of the Red Chamber TV series, who attended the performance in person.
- 2018: "Liu Sanjie" Suite Concert – Supported by China’s top-level composers Xian Zhenzhong and Xian Hua, featuring a newly arranged composition that blends Western musical styles for a more contemporary feel.
- 2023: "Ashima" Suite Concert – A global premiere, co-composed by Xian Zhenzhong and Xian Hua, with contributions from new-generation composers Xian Leyun and Xian Wentao, delivering an extraordinary audiovisual experience.
To commemorate the 65th anniversary of the "Butterfly Lovers" violin concerto, BCMA obtained authorization from original composers He Zhanhao and Chen Gang to host a large-scale concert titled "Metamorphosis of a Butterfly," featuring performances by its orchestra, choir, and youth orchestra.
Before the arrival of 2025, BCMA will also hold a unique Hokkien Song Concert, further diversifying its musical offerings.
BCMA continues to welcome musicians, music students, and enthusiasts from all backgrounds to join, creating a vibrant artistic platform and contributing to the cultural diversity and artistic fusion of the Greater Boston area.
